In-home entertainment and communications are changing very fast in the UK. The penetration of digital TV and broadband proceeds apace, (currently in over 17m homes and 13m homes in the UK respectively); and every day sees the proliferation of a host of other interesting telephony, TV and entertainment products and services, such as VOIP and IPTV.

Against this background, sit 25m households in the UK, the great majority of which are interested, but confused…"What is digital TV and what does analogue switch-off mean for me?"; "What are the relative benefits of Freeview versus Sky or NTL?"; Which broadband provider is right for me? Which "bundle deal" (of TV, broadband, telephony) is actually the best value? "Who will come and fix all this technology if it goes wrong?"

As such, a clear opportunity exists to create the confused consumer's "best friend", providing the one place consumers can go for simple, independent advice and the complete range of home entertainment and communications options, to buy and have installed in their homes.

Our organisation aims to become this "best friend", offering a complete range of Digital TV, broadband and telephony service providers (e.g Sky, Virgin Media, BT Vision, etc), and a comprehensive cover plan for peace of mind post purchase. Sales leads will be driven through online, and direct marketing, and converted by means of a "free digital home consultation" delivered over the phone.

We forecast-

1 in 30 homes going digital (or switching digital suppliers) using Simplify Digital by year 4, representing over 300,000 customers pa, generating revenue of approximately £40m pa.

The Opportunity-

The founders are looking for a highly motivated and entrepreneurial management team to come on board very early in the company's inception, and deliver the very rapid growth expectations of the company's backers. The pace will be frenetic and the potential rewards significant, via an opportunity to share in the Simplify Digital start-up share option scheme.

The Role-

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Product Development and Communication will be responsible for:

  • establishing and constantly developing the product range;
  • developing the company's product knowledge and the dissemination of that knowledge through the team (particularly the sales advisors);
  • design, development and constant updating of the comparison/recommendation engine that sits at the heart of the web and call centre IT infrastructure;
  • becoming the spokesperson of the businesses product advice for media and public relations purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Constant review of the digital TV, broadband, telephony, home entertainment and related markets to keep abreast of new product developments and trends
  • Identification of suitable products and services for Simplify Digital to add to its product proposition – e.g. new broadband providers, IPTV providers etc
  • Design, development and maintenance of the Simplify Digital comparison/recommendation engine that allows the companies sales advisors (and the customer) to quickly make price and features comparisons of the various products and services on offer
  • Development of the businesses body of product knowledge and the constant internal communication of product information and trends. This will include the development of training and briefing materials for contact centre staff and other relevant company employees
  • Close cooperation with both the Sales and Marketing team (who drive the sales leads into the contact centre) and the contact centre management team, to ensure that al
